|
The main challenges of the chiller replacement project at the University of Pécs Szentágothai Research Centre were the extremely tight deadline and the need to ensure uninterrupted laboratory operations. Only two weeks were available to complete the entire project, from dismantling the existing chiller to commissioning the new system. As laboratory cooling could only be interrupted for a minimal period, every stage of the project required detailed planning and precise scheduling. The key to success was the use of GLT Delta's prefabricated systems. Thanks to prefabrication, a significant proportion of the piping and system components were manufactured in advance at our production facility. This substantially reduced on-site installation time and eliminated the need for on-site welding. The project also presented considerable logistical challenges. The 3.5-tonne chiller had to be lifted by crane onto the roof of a 25-metre-high building within an extremely confined working area. Due to the building's structural and spatial constraints, lifting operations were the only feasible method for transporting equipment and materials. Thanks to thorough preparation, prefabrication and precisely coordinated installation work, the system was completed within the scheduled deadline, while downtime of the laboratory cooling systems was kept to an absolute minimum.
